SAN Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo is contemplating on requesting the national Inter-Agency Task Force of placing the city under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) if cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) continue to worsen.

Gustilo said that as of Tuesday, April 6, there is still no need to take such drastic action.

"For us in the City Government, it is still manageable and there is no cause for alarm," the mayor said.

He also said that the status of San Carlos City will depend on the people complying with health protocols so that they will not be infected.

"If they don't follow the protocols and they encounter somebody who's positive they will be infected too," he said.

“We have long campaigned for compliance of the protocols but many are still hard-headed,” the mayor pointed out.

Gustilo said another factor that contributed to the rise of cases in San Carlos City is the case of the Guadalupe Choir who went to the municipality of Manapla but a member was later tested positive for the virus.

A total of 27 members of the 41 member choir were tested positive after they returned to San Carlos City.

Contact tracing is ongoing.

Gustilo said activities such as singing should already be banned as it gathers crowds.

As of April 6, the city has 160 active cases, Gustilo said.

He also said that the city's isolation facilities are near capacity.

"We will now maximize the use of our quarantine facilities and convert it into isolation facilities already," he added.
