Escalante to run for mayor of Cadiz in 2019

CADIZ City Mayor Patrick Escalante said his brother, Second District Board Member Salvador Escalante Jr., will run for mayor of Cadiz City in the 2019 elections.

Mayor Escalante said he will retire from politics when his term ends in 2019.

His statement dismissed some speculations that the board member, who is the secretary-general of United Negros Alliance (Unega), will seek a higher position in the 2019 elections either for vice governor or governor as his term as a board member will also end in 2019.

Mayor Escalante said to replace his brother at the Provincial Board will be Cadiz City Councilor Pal Guanzon, brother of Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner and former Cadiz City mayor Rowena Guanzon. Board Member Samson Mirhan will also seek re-election.

Among the legacies of Escalante for the nine years he served in his city are the Cadiz City Arena and City Hall II which were inaugurated on July 2. (TDE)
