Escapee's kin may face charges

THE Talisay City Police Station may file criminal charges against a relative of one of the jail breakers of the Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) for allegedly sheltering the inmates in his home last week.

Police Major Jigger Gimeno, Talisay City police chief, identified the suspect as Jade Catigan, a relative of escaped inmate Alejandro Montoya.

According to Gimeno, Catigan had admitted that Montoya and the other inmates identified as Francisco Epogon, and Danilo Celeste went to his place for help.

Catigan, however, stated to police that he told the escapees not to stay long as he does not want to be implicated for helping them.

Gimeno said they do not believe Catigan's claims as their intelligence reports suggest that by Thursday night, July 1, they are already monitoring the escapees' movements and they did not leave Catigan's home.

Police are still investigating the incident, although Gimeno said that it is possible that Catigan can face charges for harboring a criminal.

Last week, Epogon, Montoya, the Celeste brothers, and Daniel Tamon bolted out of the NODJ in Barangay Tabunan in Bago City.

On Wednesday of last week, June 30, Tamon was recaptured by police in Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia, while Marvin Celeste was shot dead.

Last Friday, July 2, the remaining escapees were tracked down in Barangay San Fernando, Talisay City, resulting in the death of Danilo Celeste.

Police are hunting down Montoya and Epogon, whom they believed to be armed and dangerous.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said they will give P15,000 for each of the remaining two escapees as reward money for anyone who can give information that will lead to their recapture.
