EUROPEAN Union (EU) Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Véron said Friday, August 19, 2022, that he will discuss with Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson the development of a circular economy in the province.
Circular economy, Veron said, is when you already think about your product's whole life cycle from production, consumption to pause consumption before you start conceptualizing.
He said the circular economy also includes ideas on the kind of recycling methods that could be done for these products to reduce waste.
Veron added that the EU is also willing to help the country ease the issues of plastic pollution since it has “know-how” and partnership with private sectors and local government units.
Asked if the EU will also look into the viability of Negros Occidental in terms of economics and other industries, he said, “I am sure that there is a lot of potential (although) we have a very broad agenda with this country that involves trade, partnership and other aspects.”
Veron explained that export and promotion are not part of the EU, but it is within the bounds of its member countries because it involves many aspects.
The EU is a political and economic union of 27 member states that are located primarily in Europe.
Veron is in Bacolod City to attend a theater show in line for the EU Theatre festival at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City tomorrow, August 20.
The foreign dignitary said that this is a good opportunity for him to visit Negros Occidental for the first time and meet with the officials of the various local government units including Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez of Bacolod and other lawmakers in the province.
