Ferrer: Negros-Guimaras bridge project shelved

VICE Governor Jeffrey Ferrer expressed surprise over false information that the Negros-Guimaras bridge will push through.

"It's fake news," Ferrer said.

He said the National Government had already announced that the Negros-Guimaras bridge segment has already been shelved as the funds that would be used for it was redirected to the country's Covid-19 response.

Ferrer also said that if the bridge project will ever push through in the future, he opposed the idea of constructing it near the town of Pulupandan or Bago City.

He said constructing it in the said area could threaten the marine life in the area.

Based on a study made by the Lumba Project, the area near the town of Pulupandan and Bago City is home to the endangered Irrawaddy dolphins.

The group has been very vocal over the proposed construction of the bridge as it could threaten the dolphin's habitat in the area.

Instead, Ferrer is pointing out that the ideal spot for constructing the proposed bridge would be at the town of Valladolid which would be much safer since the town has an existing sea wall, and it would not threaten the marine life in the area.
