Fishing boat capsizes off San Carlos City, 4 rescued

FOUR people were rescued after their fishing boat capsized due to rough seas off the waters of San Carlos City in Negros Occidental on March 1.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Negros Occidental chief Jansen Benjamin, identified the four men as Jail Inspector Ian Carl Niaga; Jail Officer 1 Michael Oliver Facio; Romeo Mabilog; and Antonio Yanson.

Lieutenant Commander Benjamin said on Sunday morning, the four individuals went out fishing. As soon as they got out to sea, however, their boat was battered by strong winds and big waves causing their vessel to capsize.

Several fishing boats in the area, who have witnessed the incident, immediately initiated a rescue operation and the four were plucked out of the water.

Benjamin said the four men did not suffer any serious injuries in the incident, although Mabilog was rushed to the San Carlos City hospital after complaining of hypertension.
