GSO to deploy 18 guards at public plaza

THE General Services Office (GSO) in Bacolod City will deploy 18 security guards at the public plaza to enforce discipline and peace and order in the area.

GSO head Jerome Solinap said on Tuesday, August 28, the guards are all job order casuals and they will be deployed into three shifts to ensure that there will be no presence of commercial sex workers (CSWs) inside the plaza.

“The deployment of security guards is under the GSO and we will not allow the CSWs to stay inside the public plaza,” he said.

Solinap noted that in the previous years, he told the leader of the CSWs that they are no longer allowed to stay within the vicinity of the plaza.

Solinap said that he will coordinate with the City Administrator Office to determine the whole plan for the improvement of the public plaza.

City Administrator John Orola had earlier ordered the GSO to enforce discipline and peace and order at the public plaza to eliminate the CSWs in the area.

Orola said he was informed that CSWs are still in the area and some of them were also involved in theft incidents.

“We will continue to be vigilant on these to stop them from loitering not only in public plaza but also in other areas of Bacolod,” he added.

The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) and the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) had earlier intensified its campaign against CSWs to stop them from loitering around the city.

This, after some business establishment owners filed complaints that CSWs are staying within their premises or building.
