Himamaylan City tops in supplemental vax drive

HIMAMAYLAN City topped the three week implementation of the Chikiting Ligtas Supplemental Immunization campaign of the Department of Health in Negros Occidental.

Dr. Girlie Pinongan, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Health Office, said on Wednesday, May 17, that Himamaylan City has reached 93 percent of its target.

Pinongan said that Negros Occidental continue to lead Western Visayas with 146,914 or 68 percent of its target to be vaccinated.

A total of 65,000 still remains to be vaccinated across the province, she said.

Logging low rates are the cities of San Carlos City and Kabankalan City

In Western Visayas, the fully immunized children below one year old in 2022 was 59.52 percent.

The target is 95 percent to hit herd immunity.

Chikiting Ligtas is a nationwide supplemental immunization campaign of the DOH and World Health Organization and UNICEF against measles, rubella, and polio

The measles and rubella vaccine is administered to children aged 9 to 59 months, while 0 to 59 months old are given oral poliovirus vaccine.*
