TWO pigs in Barangay Cambaog, Hinigaran have tested positive for African swine fever (ASF), Mayor Nadie Arceo said Wednesday, June 21.

Arceo said that only the pigs from the barangay tested positive, as the pigs from neighboring Brgy. Anahaw tested negative.

He also said that there are already 12 barangays in the municipality that have been affected by hog deaths due to various illnesses.

A total of 541 hogs have already died, with 317 coming from Brgy. Cambaog.

The mayor said that only 10 percent of the hog raisers in the town have animal insurance.

Areco said the municipal government will give financial assistance to affected hog raisers.

"We will give P500 per piglet and P1,000 per adult pigs," he said.

Earlier, seven pigs from Brgy. Anahaw, Hinigaran that were delivered to Victorias Food Corporation in Victorias City tested positive.

Hinigaran becomes the fourth local government unit in Negros Occidental to have confirmed ASF cases.*
