“WE ARE open for alliance with other political parties.”

This was stressed by Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez after he filed a petition for accreditation of the Kilusan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP) political party to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) last week.

Benitez, who was designated as president of the party and attended the hearing in the Commission on Elections last week, said the new political party was formed after it was agreed by a certain group of elected officials, mostly from the Congress, to put up a new political party embracing the ideology of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration, and campaigning based on unity.

He said the Comelec en banc is expected to resolve their petition in June 2023.

“One of the reasons why we need a new political party is because we need to unite. Every election, we should set aside politics. Let’s unite for the common good,” he added.

The mayor stressed that they would like to create a culture where after the election, the political leaders will unite regardless of their political affiliation.

“We are here for the good of the country and it’s very important that after every election, we respect the decision of the voters,” Benitez said.

Once the new political party will be approved, Benitez disclosed that he will resign as a member of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).*
