NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is hoping that the province would be chosen by San Miguel Corporation (SMC) as its site for its P21 billion feed mill, poultry, and broiler projects.

Lacson revealed the business plan of SMC after one of the company's executives paid a courtesy visit to him Thursday, January 12, along with First District Rep. Gerardo Valmayor.

"Not necessarily in Negros, but they are moving around. This is a result of Valmayor's discussion with Mr. Ramon Ang during the Christmas Party of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) in December where he was asked by Ang, ‘do you want a feed mill?’ But this is still in a preliminary stage," Lacson said.

Ang is the president and chief executive officer of SMC.

Lacson said that the business plan of SMC is part of its food security program.

Aside from a feed mill project, SMC is also eyeing broiler and poultry projects under its P21 billion business plan, Lacson said.

Aside from scouting for the possible project sites, SMC would also like to secure the acceptability of the project because they would also need other investors for the project, he said.

The decision lies in SMC but we hope to get that project for Negros, Lacson said.

Earlier, SMC put on hold its plan to put up a Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) project in the province.*
