Leonardia: Cadagat complaint on P1.7 billion loan is ‘malicious, baseless’

“It is very twisted, very political, very malicious and without basis.”

This was the reaction of Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia after Edgar Cadagat allegedly sent a letter to the Department of Finance (DOF) in Manila opposing the city’s loan application amounting to P1.7 billion to fund the city’s flagship projects.

Leonardia said that Cadagat should show his opposition letter.

“Cadagat is only a pawn and we know that there’s someone behind him. It’s all about politics,” he said.

In his letter to DOF, Cadagat stated that Leonardia should not be entrusted with millions of pesos in public funds which he will just divest the public.

He claimed these projects are only Leonardia’s strategy to generate funds for himself in preparation for the incoming elections.

The City Council had earlier approved the request of Leonardia to authorize him to apply for a loan with DOF amounting to P1.7 billion to fund the city's flagship projects.

These projects are the Progreso Village Relocation Site with the budget of P350 million; Bacolod City College Site Development and Facilities, P350 million; construction of Bacolod MassKara Coliseum, P800 million; and the construction of roads and bridges, P200 million.

Leonardia said it’s up to the DOF to answer the complaint of Cadagat.

“We have no notice for this to answer the complaint, but if they will require us, definitely we will answer that,” he said.
