LTO explains queues for release of license

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) here explained the long queues and the limited slots per day for the releasing of driver’s license cards.

LTO said there is only one printer machine per driver’s license renewal center – one at the LTO main office at Cottage Road in Bacolod City and one at the Robinsons Place.

Each machine, on a normal operation sans trouble and issues, can print only up to 100 cards per day to avoid overheating of the P3 million worth printing machine.

Thus, priority numbers are given to the first 100 clients per renewal center and these can be availed by clients who have previously processed their license renewal.

Since the effectivity of the five-year validity of license cards in November 2016, LTO-Robinsons alone, has an approximate backlog for printing of about 35,000 license cards.

On a daily average, LTO-Robinsons caters to about 180 clients and would have to get priority numbers the next time to claim their printed license cards.

Traffic Regulation Officer Paul Garcia at LTO-Robinsons said it takes 20 minutes per client to encode, process and print the license cards.

The priority numbers are issued Mondays to Fridays starting at 9 a.m.

The five-year driver’s license cards may be claimed at any LTO branch within Region 6.(PR)
