E.B. MAGALONA Mayor Marvin Malacon denied the allegations that he threatened one of the municipal employees, who reported him to the police for physical abuse and threat inside the mayor’s office on December 19.

Disbursing officer John Rey Gamboa filed the complaint at E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station on December 20.

He alleged the mayor threatened him, saying “Diin ka sang Domingo? Ato ka sa punong ni Board, gin sugid mo ko to kay Board nga gin kawat ko kuno ang cash advance nga P2.5 million. Wa-ay ko di ya gapangawat, indi ko ya kawatan. Kun wa-ay di si manay, pinatay ta na ka. Kanami sa imu tiruhon.”

Gamboa also alleged that Malacon kicked and punched him before the mayor left the office.

When sought for reaction, Malacon, in a press briefing yesterday, said the accusations of Gamboa was purely “politically-motivated,” claiming that he cannot do the allegations of his employee. “I am the incumbent mayor, why would I do that?”

Malacon admitted he confronted Gamboa, in front of his staff, and the latter’s aunt because of the complaints of some employees against his attitude and actions as a government employee.

“I shouted at him once, but I did not touch him,” he added.

“It was just a normal reaction between a boss and an employee. I did not threaten him. I just explained to him his wrong actions,” Malacon said.

Malacon also explained that the P2.5 million mentioned on Gamboa’s complaint refers to the supplemental budget which was approved by the council for the salary of the job order casuals.

He said they will take legal action on that matter.

Malacon believed that someone is behind Gamboa’s actions. “He (Gamboa) went to the police station with a lawyer and media, how could you do that if you’re just an ordinary employee?”

He is optimistic the complaint will not prosper because he did not do anything wrong.

Malacon advised employees to never allow themselves to be used by politicians because they serve the people and not the government officials.

At present, Gamboa was on leave. He will be temporarily replaced by an officer-in-charge to be designated by Malacon as not to compromise the delivery of basic services.
