Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has ordered the City Health Office (CHO) to take all preventive measures against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases in the city.

“They have to be on top of it, find all the preventive measures needed, and determine what solutions should be put in place to prevent the spread of the virus,” Benitez said.

He said the CHO should intensify its monitoring in various barangays as well as in schools.

Some private schools in Bacolod City temporarily held online learning due to the increasing cases of respiratory infections.

Benitez said it’s the work of the CHO to intensify its campaign and update its data to determine the number of RSV cases in the city.

The RSV virus is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious.

Benitez said it’s coronavirus disease (Covid-19) symptoms, so the CHO should know how to deal with it.

"We already have experience from the Covid-19 so the response will be in place,” he said.

He added that there’s a possibility that people should use a face mask again to prevent the spread of the virus.*
