THE Bacolod City Local Market Committee (LMC) will conduct another raffle for the 35 available stalls at the Libertad Public Market Annex Building on Friday, June 30, City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. said Tuesday, June 27.

Ting said of the 91 stalls, they have already raffled at least 59 stalls, and the remaining stalls will be raffled again to the market vendors who failed to get numbers during the first and second raffles.

“Those who did not get a number in the raffle will be allowed to join again in the third batch of raffle,” he said.

He added that at least 200 vendors will join the raffle.

Ting noted that after the raffle, all the market vendors should occupy their new stalls and vacate their stalls outside the public market.

“Once they have already transferred inside the market, we will start to demolish the stalls along Amelia-Mercedes streets,” Ting said.

He said there’s also a proposal to conduct a night market so they need to clear the area, adding that the night market is intended for the market vendors who did not get stalls during the raffle.

He added that they are only waiting for the approval of the resolution from the City Council.

Councilor Celia Matea Flor, chairperson of the City Council committee on markets, earlier said this is the option of the city government to accommodate the vendors who did not get a stall and the night market will start from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

She said they will pass a resolution for the implementation of the night market, noting that only vegetables and species products will be allowed to be sold in the area.

She added that the market vendors will occupy only one lane of the road to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the area.*
