THE Municipality of Murcia has declared a dengue outbreak.

Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, confirmed that Mayor Gerry Rojas of Murcia has declared a dengue outbreak after dengue cases in the town surpassed the epidemic threshold.

Tumimbang said that based on their record, there were 147 dengue cases and one death in Murcia from January 1 to July 13.

He said it is about 360 percent higher compared to the dengue cases in the town last year, and it surpassed the epidemic threshold.

Tumimbang also confirmed that Murcia is the first local government unit to have declared a dengue outbreak.

The highest case of dengue in the town is in Barangay Minoyan.

Tumimbang said the Provincial Health Office (PHO) had sent a monitoring team to Murcia and assisted the Municipal Health Office in the campaign against dengue.

He also reminded everyone to maintain cleanliness and to destroy all possible breeding grounds of mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus.
