NEGROS Occidental Acting Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said yesterday, November 9, that a national official will arrive in Pulupandan today to check on the possible landing area of the proposed Negros-Guimaras-Panay Bridge project.

Ferrer, who did not name the official yet, said the latter is an undersecretary who will meet Pulupandan Mayor Miguel Antonio Peña.

He said that they have presented some options as a landing area of the bridge in the province but that would be for the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to decide.

Ferrer, who is also the adviser of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. for Western Visayas, said the bridge project is one of the prioroties of the President in the region including the ressurection of the Negros Island Region (NIR).

He said that there are some reports that a group is already willing to fund the Iloilo-Guimaras portion of the bridge although there are also international investors who are interested to pour in investments for the entire project.

"We are hoping that under the present administration, the project will be realized," Ferrer said.

As to the NIR, Ferrer said, they are pushing through with the plan however there are proposals to include Siquijor.

Ferrer said they would like to stick to the original plan of having the two Negros provinces under one region, and that he is not in favor to some ideas of putting separately the two Negros provinces as sub-regions of Region 7 and Region 6.* )
