THE officers of National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) arrived in Bacolod City Monday, August 13, to help the local artists finish the painting of murals on the concrete wall of the Burgos public cemetery.

The NCCA officers led by Edgar Fernandez, head of the National Committee on Visual Arts and project director for Arts in Public Places; Institutional Projects administrative officer Darius Nicholas; and Arts in Public Space project officer Ronald Fernando, were welcomed by Mayor Evelio Evelio Leonardia at the Government Center.

“It is one of the positive aspects to spread the arts to the public and it is also one of our programs to share the arts to everybody,” he said.

The historical murals at the Burgos public cemetery is part of the 80th founding anniversary of Bacolod City.

In May, a group of artist in Bacolod offered their assistance to the City Government for the painting of historical murals and it is still ongoing.

The artists painted the city’s development from 1938 to the present.

Fernandez said more artists from other cities are also expected to arrive to finish the murals painting and it is for free.

He said the NCCA also approved the P125,000 funds which was requested by the local artists for the completion of the project.

Meanwhile, lead artist who worked on the mural, Rafael Karlo Burdeos Jr., recently passed away.
