Negrenses commemorate 120th Independence Day

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental will commemorate the 120th anniversary of the proclamation of the Philippine Independence at the Provincial Capitol grounds today.

Themed “Kalayaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglalaban Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan,” Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson will lead the commemoration, along with Second District Board Member Salvador Escalante Jr.

Liza Coronel, acting head of the Public Affairs Division, said that Capitol employees and department heads will attend the celebration and they also invited representatives of national government agencies such as the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and others.

The members of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army are also invited, she said.

The Philippine Independence was proclaimed on June 12, 1898, at the ancestral home of General Emilio Aguinaldo. The event saw the unfurling of the National Flag of the Philippines made in Hong Kong by Marcela Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo, and Delfina Herboza, and the performance of Lupang Hinirang, which was composed by Julián Felipe.
