Negros lawmakers condemn attack, killing of soldiers

ELEVEN congressmen of Negros Island that includes three in Oriental, seven in Occidental and Abang Lingkod party-list representative passed a resolution strongly condemning the attack that resulted to the death of three soldiers and wounding of four others in Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City.

“We condemn the deplorable act of the New People’s Army - attacking members of the 94th Infantry Battalion on security patrol in Sitio Tugas, Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental last April 19, 2020, causing the death of 3 soldiers and injuring 4 soldiers,” the resolution stated.

Confirmed reports indicate that the government forces were ambushed—the army vehicle suffered from a landmine blast and grenades were thrown at the soldiers, and it was not an encounter as claimed by the NPA spokesman who also said they did not suffer any casualty after the firefight.

“We condemn the treacherous and cowardly attack against the soldiers who were in the area to assist distribution of the social amelioration program to beneficiaries affected by Covid 19—a clear violation of the unilateral ceasefire agreement.

As we express our deepest sympathy to the families of the fallen soldiers, we recognize the heroism of all our soldiers who are among the selfless frontliners in the fight against Covid-19 and for keeping the peace in Negros Island,” the resolution added. (TDE)
