Capitol scrutinizes contract on CyberCentre

THE Negros Occidental Provincial Government is thoroughly reviewing the contract on the management of the CyberCentre to find ways to improve the position of the province.

Former Third District representative Alfredo Benitez, consultant of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Economic Development and Investments, said the province is not earning from the CyberCentre after the management was turned over to a private company.

"We are in discussion right now. Our hands are tied because they have a long-term contract (the province and the private firm). Only few years has been consumed from the contract. We are in discussion what can be done to improve the stake of the province," Benitez said.

He said that next week, they will have another meeting about the contract.

In 2014, the Provincial Government built the Negros First CyberCentre to answer the need of setting up an ideal and conducive environment for the BPO industry. The same year, the project has been granted its Peza certificate of registration as developer/operator.

The CyberCentre is situated in a four-hectare lot at the heart of downtown Bacolod City, with approximately 22,000-square-meter gross floor area that houses commercial establishments and BPO companies catering to different industries since March 1, 2015.

A joint venture between the Provincial Government and Negros Property Management Development Corporation (NPMDC) was signed on March 22, 2016, creating Negros First CyberCentre Joint Venture Enterprises to manage the operations of the CyberCentre.

Up to this time, the CyberCentre is not yet fully occupied.
