NEGROS Occidental Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz confirmed Thursday morning, August 26, that the province has recorded its first case of the more infectious Delta variant of Covid-19.
According to Diaz, the patient is a 52-year-old returning overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Talisay City.
The OFW patient originated from the United Arab Emirates and arrived in the country last July 20, after which he was immediately quarantined and later tested positive for Covid-19.
Diaz said they received the patient's results from the Philippine Genome Center Wednesday afternoon, August 25.
The patient's home has since been placed under quarantine and he had already undergone re-swabbing.
The patient's family, meanwhile, has also undergone RT-PCR tests.
Diaz, however, pointed out that the patient was isolated in two different hotels in Bacolod City, prior to being allowed to return home in Talisay City.
He also pointed out that the patient has already "fully recovered" even though they have just received the information that he had the Delta variant.
Previously, Bacolod City reported two additional cases of the Delta variant of Covid-19 bringing the city's total cases to six. However, all of the cases have since fully recovered.
