Negros police on full alert for Labor Day

THE Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) is on full alert for the observance of Labor Day Wednesday, May 1.

Police Major Edison Garcia, public information officer of Nocppo, said they will deploy contingents from the Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) to secure protesters during their activities, as well as other individuals.

He said the security measures for Labor Day are part of the security plan on summer vacation.

Aside from CDM contingents, policemen will also be visible in the streets to maintain peace and order.

"We anticipate protests and rallies during the day, that's why we also strengthened our police presence to avoid untoward incidents," Garcia said.

Garcia said cause-oriented groups are free to air their sentiments or opinions on Labor Day.

Most of the participants who will join the rally will come from places outside Bacolod City, he added.

On May 1, the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan)-Negros will march from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon toward the Bacolod public plaza, where a short program will be held at 1 p.m. in relation to the Labor Day observance.
