No guidelines yet for Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center

REUBEN Tampos, head of Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Bacolod, on Thursday, February 4, 2021, said they have not yet received the guidelines for the controversial Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC).

Tampos also said that all over Western Visayas, there is only one operational PMVIC, which is located in Roxas City.

In Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, there are four PMVIC that were already approved by the LTO but all of them are not yet in operation. These are located at the Bredco Port that is conducting operational tests; Barangay Alijis, Cadiz City and Kabankalan City.

Tampos also said the LTO will only receive the clearance certificate from private companies that will test all vehicles that will be one of the requirements for registration and renewal of vehicle registration.

The LTO issued a memorandum circular in 2018 authorizing PMVICs to collect an inspection fee of P1,800 from motor vehicles weighing 4,500 kilograms or less. If the vehicle failed the test, it will be required to undergo necessary repairs and be brought back to the PMVIC, where the motorist will be charged an additional P900 reinspection fee to obtain clearance.

Motorcycles and tricycles are charged P600 for the inspection fee and P300 for reinspection, if necessary.

The program has been a subject of opposition all over the country.
