'No water fest' in EB Magalona, Cadiz City

THE local government units of Cadiz City and EB Magalona will impose several restrictions during the observance of the feast day of St. John the Baptist Wednesday, June 24.

In an executive order, Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. ordered prohibiting all kinds of gatherings at beaches, rivers, lakes, parks, and the like effective for Wednesday only.

Escalante, however, stated in his order that outdoor activities are allowed under the latest executive order, but everyone should adhere to social distancing requirements of at least six feet and limit gatherings to 10 persons or less.

The mayor also imposed a liquor ban in his locality, and drinking within public view of alcoholic beverages, liquor or spirits is likewise prohibited.

EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon has also issued an order prohibiting leisure activities such as picnics and swimming in both public and private beaches, resorts, rivers, and similar recreational areas in the town.

Malacon has also ordered barangay officials in his locality to mobilize their personnel in order to monitor and secure compliance of his order.

Meanwhile in Bacolod City, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Negros Occidental chief, Lieutanant Commander Jansen Benjamin, said that as of Tuesday, June 23, they have not received any order from the City Government of Bacolod regarding the supposed restrictions.

Since some of the resorts are already open in the city, Benjamin said they will concentrate instead on enforcing minimum health protocols such as the observance of social distancing and wearing of face masks.

The PCG will also assign some of their personnel in the city's Barangay Punta Taytay in order to enforce the health protocols and ensure the safety of the resort-goers.
