ONLY nuisance items were seized during the greyhound operation at the female dormitory of Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City Wednesday morning.
No contraband like illegal drugs was found during the search of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Negros Occidental in cooperation with the MBDJ personnel and Police Station 10 at the 10 dormitories inside the jail around 6 a.m.
Authorities recovered pairs of scissors, nails, pocketbooks, stone, cup, paper plate, ballpen, metal rod, empty bottle and tin can, hanger, mirror, spoon, blade, inhalers, and unprescribed shorts among others.
A total of 189 inmates were also inspected.
The operation lasted for two hours.
Inspector Aubrey Robles, the warden, said she was thankful for the constant support of the police and PDEA during greyhound operations.
The reputation of the jail as a drug-free and smoke-free facility has not been tarnished, Robles said, adding that they will continue to implement their strict guidance, policies, and protocols pertaining to jail security.
On July 23, the Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Bago City also conducted greyhound operation which resulted in the confiscation of improvised weapons and bladed weapons. No illegal drugs were recovered.
Twenty inmates and 20 jail officers were also tested negative of illegal drugs during the surprise drug test at the jail.
These operations and tests were conducted in relation to the intensified "Oplan Linis Piitan" of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to ensure that all jails are drug-free. (GYM)
