PHO: Be cautious on food this holiday season

DOCTOR Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, has reminded the public to continue to be cautious on food with the New Year celebration.

Tumimbang said some people tend to prepare food that will last for several days.

This is because of limited gathering activities due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, Tumimbang said

He said some foods need to be consumed right away, but some can last up to 24 hours that can be stored.

Tumimbang said fruits and pasta dishes are favorites during the holidays.

“Refrigerate unconsumed foods and change its container if possible to maintain its freshness,” he added.

Tumimbang also said with limited space for physical exercise due to protocols of social distancing, some people forget the importance of physical movement to burn unwanted fats and to stimulate proper blood circulation.

Being glued on television sets while eating is not a good habit for all ages since it won’t help proper digestion,” he said.

Those taking maintenance medicines for hypertension and those living with diabetes should always check their blood pressure and blood sugar as overeating and lack of exercise have been the common causes for these illnesses, he said.
