Police face blank wall in slay of retired cop

THE Escalante City Police Station in Negros Occidental is facing a blank wall on the death of a retired policeman at Barangay Buenavista Saturday, July 14.

Chief Inspector Rollie Pondevilla, city police chief, said they have no lead on the identities of the perpetrator/s, who shot to death retired Senior Police Officer 2 Angel Sinadjan, 62.

Over the weekend, Sinadjan was found dead by his caretaker inside his house with a lone gunshot wound on his head. Some of his personal belongings and firearm were believed to be stolen.

Police recovered from the scene a slug of an unknown firearm.

Pondevilla said they are still gathering information and evidence since there were no witnesses who can testify on the incident because the area was far from other houses.

He said the killing was "well-planned" because of the manner of execution.

Pondevilla said it could be that the gunman waited for the victim to come home, as he was only living alone.

Pondevilla said Sinadjan's family did not provide any information if he had previous threats in relation to his profession, but police claimed he was killed because of his intensified campaign against illegal activities, particularly illegal drugs in the town while he was still in the police service.

Pondevilla also dismissed reports that the victim was an alleged bodyguard of First District Representative Melecio Yap Jr.

"He might be a loyal supporter of the congressman but he is not his bodyguard," Pondevilla said.(GYM)
