Pontevedra couple asks guv for consideration over 'misrepresentation'

FACED with possible charges for misrepresenting themselves as locally stranded individuals (LSIs) instead of overseas Filipino workers, the couple from the municipality of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental has written Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson asking for consideration.

Lawyer Rayfrando Diaz, provincial administrator, confirmed Tuesday, February 16, that a letter was sent by the couple to the governor.

The couple with their son was reported to have mis-declared themselves as LSIs.

The couple who came from London and travelled via Istanbul, Turkey last December 30, 2020 arrived in Bacolod via AirAsia on January 16, 2021.

He said that after undergoing mandatory swabbing at the Bacolod-Silay Airport, the couple tested positive for the virus that causes the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Their son tested negative.

Diaz said the Provincial Legal Office has recommended to the governor to file charges against the family.

He, however, did not divulge the reason cited in the letter because the letter was "personal."

"The PLO said that they committed a serious crime against public health and a violation of the protocol," he pointed out.

Diaz said that right now, the governor is thinking about the matter on whether "to sustain the legal point of view of filing cases against them or he will side with compassion."

It will be the governor who will make the public announcement soon.
