Public hearing on closure of right of way in Banago set next week

BACOLOD City Councilor Renecito Novero will hold a public hearing next week to come up with a win-win solution on the problem of the residents in Purok Kamawiwili, Barangay Banago.

Novero, chairperson of the City Council Committee on urban poor, housing and resettlement, said on Thursday, August 30, that he will invite the private landowner, City Legal Office and the affected residents of Purok Makawiwili.

Several residents of Purok Makawiwili had earlier sought the assistance of the City Government after the private landowner closed their road right of way toward the main road.

Novero said the road right of way is a private property thus a win-win solution to resolve this problem must be sought.

“I am hopeful that the landowner will listen to us and to give us a favor to consider the situation of the affected families,” he said.

He added the affected families should also cooperate with the city government and to the landowner in order to resolve the problem.

Serafin Yanguer Jr. had earlier said the landowner developed the area and constructed the concrete wall on July 28.

The affected residents placed a temporary bamboo ladder on the concrete wall so they can reach the main road.

Yanguer said they can also use the other road but it would take longer for them to reach the main road.

He said in 2013, the landowner also tried to close the road right of way but it was temporarily stopped because of the intervention of the City Government.
