NEGROS Occidental Provincial Administrator lawyer Rayfrando Diaz II announced Thursday, March 3, 2022, the plan to reopen the Mambukal Mountain Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary in Murcia town by April this year in time for the summer season.

The Capitol-run facility was reopened in December 2021. However, it was closed again after Typhoon Odette damaged some parts of the resort, toppling trees and powerlines.

Diaz said they were only able to restore power at the resort on Wednesday, almost three months after the typhoon hit the province in December last year.

The priority earlier was the restoration of power in the residential areas in the areas affected by the typhoon.

With electricity now restored, Diaz said improvement works and repairs of the damaged facilities can now take place.

Among the improvements being carried out is the installation of the P2.5 million worth of street lights inside the resort premises to keep guests safe to roam around during night time.

The boating lagoon has also been drained in order for workers to repair the resort's dam.

Diaz said they temporarily redirected the water to the nearby river, while the dam is being repaired.
