REBUILDING homes and lives, Vice President Leni Robredo and her volunteer groups completed the turnover of the P3 million worth of shelter kits to be used for the rehabilitation of homes ravaged by Typhoon Odette last December 2021.

Staying true to the "Angat Buhay Lahat" advocacy of Robredo, Angat Buhay Youth and Team Leni Robredo maximized the P3 million worth of volunteer donations in providing housing relief to 400 beneficiaries in the cities of Kabankalan and Himamaylan, Negros Occidental; Barangays Mana-ul and Campina, Hilongos in Leyte.

The same were also distributed to affected residents at Malitbog in Bukidnon; Municipalities of Catarman, Guinsiliban, Mahinog, and Sagay in Camiguin; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; and the city of Cagayan de Oro and municipalities of Jasaan, Lagonglong, Salay, Sugbongcogon, Balingasag, El Salvador, and Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental.

The shelter kits consist of lumbers, corrugated sheets, plywoods, sacks of cement, common nails, umbrella nails, and galvanized iron sheets.

One of the pillars of Robredo's platform 'Gobyernong Tapat, Angat Buhay Lahat' is providing decent shelter for Filipinos, Angat Buhay Youth Program Officer Von Maunga Sai said in a statement.

After the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, many houses of our kababayans have been destroyed or levelled and one of the projects of the Office of the Vice President (OVP)is to help them rebuild and recover," Sia said.

He added that compassion with action is what we need when human resilience is being tested and this is one of the core messages of VP Leni Robredo ever since she entered public service: Filipinos helping Filipinos.

"We thank the volunteers of Team Leni Robredo for reaching out to us and sharing the donations they've gathered to help our kababayans in Visayas and Mindanao to get back on their feet," the youth volunteer noted.

TLR Communications Head Ben Bernabe said the housing rehabilitation project has empowered volunteers to report on the situation on the ground in order to properly assess the needs of each family. The materials needed were locally sourced to help jump start the economic activity in the area.

He said TLR identified the beneficiaries and the group provided a list of beneficiaries in the selected areas to the local hardware stores.

The local hardware store then allowed each beneficiary to take construction and repair materials worth the amount equal to specified budget for each beneficiary. TLR paid for the local hardware stores. (PR)
