AT LEAST seven fisherfolks’ associations in San Carlos City received a financial grant worth P318, 150 from the City Government of San Carlos, Tuesday morning, May 19.
City Mayor Renato Gustilo handed the said amount to the group of fisherfolks inside his office and told them to use it wisely.
Melvin Maglayon, Conservation Fellow of the programs of the Coastal Resource Management (CRM), said each Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (FARMC) member association received P45, 450 as additional capital for their livelihood and fishing projects.
Aida Gando, FARMC chairman, was grateful for the aid received as well as to the local government for its firm support to the association’s programs on the protection of the seas.
Maglayon explained that the grant is part of the two million pesos received by the city for being chosen as the Most Outstanding Community in Western Visayas during the Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan Search of the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) in 2016.
Edward Burgos, CRM Division chief said that part of the P2 million prize will be used to purchase patrol boat while Maglayon added that it will also be used for site visits and trainings to enhance capabilities of FARMC and the CRM division.
Engr. Loreto Sanchez, head of the City Environment Management Office was also present during the distribution. (PR)
