School official urged parents, stakeholders to join brigada

A PUBLIC school principal of the biggest and oldest high school in Negros Occidental urged parents and stakeholders to join Brigada Eskwela.

Mario Amaca, principal of Negros Occidental Provincial High School (NOPHS), called on the community to take part in the ongoing school clean up and clearing for the opening of classes next week.

He said the community may volunteer to plant seedlings, clean or donate in cash or in kind.

About 4,000 to 5,000 students, parents, Parents-Teachers Asscociation (PTA) members, PTA officials, national government agencies and private partners are expected to take part in the activity that will run until Saturday, June 2.

He said it takes the combined participation of the community and the school to mold the youth into becoming a productive citizen.

He also said Brigada Eskwela can encourage teachers to work hard as the community does its turn in helping spruce up the campus.

The school has already received donations, including boxes of chalk, cans of paint, seedlings, and cash.

"Let us all help each other for the sake of our students," he said.

NOHS is the province' biggest school in terms of the student population with about 7,500 students and is also the oldest having been established in 1902. (PR)
