THE Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City has announced that it has successfully performed its second pacemaker surgery on May 7, 2021.
The surgical case, which took place a week after the first surgery, was attended by Dr. Calvin Fernandez, Dr. Jorge Edward Masa and Dr. Kris Laura Crucero-Manuel.
CLMMRH, in a statement, said the patient is a 48-year-old male surgeon who had complete heart block.
He needed a pacemaker due to symptoms resulting from a very slow heart rate, it said.
The surgery lasted for two hours and was closely monitored by the medical and surgical team.
The hospital said despite the logistics obstacles, CLMMRH is committed to implementing the mandate of the Department of Health (DOH) as a designated cardiovascular center pursuant to Department Order 2021-0001.
"This milestone brings a significant impact to the lives of the people of Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, as the cardiovascular services will be made available, accessible and affordable," it said.
It added that "CLMMRH has become true to its commitment that the hospital will become a national resource that will contribute to a purpose of serving the Filipino people."
The CLMMRH said the establishment of the Heart Team to conduct cardiovascular surgical services is a new and significant milestone.
The regional hospital, as the sole DOH-retained hospital on the island, is gearing towards the vision of becoming a cardiovascular center.
This will enable people in the province to have an opportunity to have a better health outcome, as well as to improve their lives, it added.
