A septuagenarian woman died after she was sideswiped by the vehicle of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Sagay City, Negros Occidental shortly after noontime yesterday, April 22.

Killed was Erlinda Malunahao, 76, of Barangay Tiglawigan in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

She died upon arrival at Alfredo E. Marañon Hospital, Lieutenant Colonel Jonel Guadalupe said.

Guadalupe said the BJMP vehicle driven by Jail Officer Jimmy Fortaleza Jr. was heading south of the national highway in Barangay Poblacion 1 when the accident happened.

Investigation showed that Fortaleza lost control of the vehicle causing it to spin and ram a parked motorcycle and a car before it sideswiped Malunahao who was just standing by the road.

Fortaleza, 34, of Barangay Balintawak in Escalante City was taken into police custody following the accident.

Guadalupe said that the jail officer and the family of the victim already had an initial talk although he did not state whether a settlement is underway or not.
