Silay wins drum and lyre competition

SILAY South Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps, representing Silay City, is this year’s champion for the 25th Panaad sa Negros Festival Drum and Lyre Competition and received P50,000 cash prize at the Panaad Stadium on April 17.

Bocana Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps, representing the municipality of Ilog, was adjudged second placer and received P40,000 cash prize, while the municipality of Pulupandan Drum and Lyre Corps got the third place award and received P30,000 cash.

Corazon L. Montelibano Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps won fourth place and received P20,000 cash, while Valladolid Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps, representing the municipality of Valladolid, placed fifth and received P10,000 cash.

Maria Lopez Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps of Sagay City, Candoni Central Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps of Candoni, Escalante Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps of Escalante City, Tabugon Elementary School Drum and Tabugon Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps of Kabankalan City, Odiong Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps of Moises Padilla, and Talisay Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps of Talisay City received P5,000 each as consolation prize.

Valladolid bagged the Best in Uniform award and received P5,000, and Franchesca Noreen Palermo of Silay City was adjudged Best Drum Major and received P2,500.

Judges include Jesus Maria Arsenio Salvilla, Joy Cariño, and Ericson Segovia.

Instruments used during the competition were lyre, xylophone, drums, cymbals, and cowbells. (PR)
