SILAY City will be celebrating “Kaon Ta!” Silay Heritage Food Festival on November 3 to 5, 2018 on the grounds of the Victor Fernandez Gaston Ancestral House, also known as Balay Negrense Museum.
This event is the highlight of Silay’s annual celebration of the provincewide Cinco de Noviembre.
Now on its third year, “Kaon Ta!” celebrates the rich culinary heritage of Silay City, showcasing traditional family specialties handed down through generations, the best of local farm produce and artisanal products, as well as culinary innovations of Silay’s young and upcoming food entrepreneurs.
The Festival is a coming together of community, the welcoming invitation Kaon Ta! (Let’s eat!) calling on friends and visitors to come join us and savor our special Silay treats - a meal, a dessert, a drink - while renewing friendships or making new ones, and having a good time.
Heritage food coming from El Ideal Bakery, Emma Lacson, Luguay, German Unson, Sir & Ma’am, Ann Co and many more will be showcased during “Kaon Ta!”
This festival will showcase not just food but other fields in art like music, folk dance and an art exhibit by our very own Silay students and artists.
Games like Amazing Race, Piaya Eating Contest and “Kaon Ta!” trivia will be an interactive experience where customers participate and join in the fun.
There’s also a walking tour with local tour guide experts of the most renowned aspect of Silay’s fame as a heritage city – the 28 ancestral houses representing varying ages and architectural styles.
This year the “Kaon Ta!” culinary experience will also be complemented by a special musical event which will be led by Mayor Mark Andrew Arthur Gloez and the local government offices including Silay Tourism Office and Silay Cultural Office.
From November 3 to 11, Silay will be hosting the 5th International Rondalla Festival Strings of Unity.
Over 20 groups of artists will be participating, including rondalla ensembles from the Philippines and groups showcasing plucked string music traditions from countries around the world, including Australia, France, Germany, Iran, Israel, Russia, Taiwan and Uganda.
