AYESHA Joy Villaflor, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman of Barangay 6, was elected president of the SK Federation in Bacolod City yesterday, May 28.

The election was held at Nature's Village Resort in Talisay City which was supervised by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Of the 61 barangays, only 60 SK chairpersons were present.

Absent was the SK chairman of Barangay 17, who was on travel.

Other elected SK Federation officers were Julia Marie Rile of Barangay 2, vice president; Fercy Lyn Almaiz of Barangay Mansilingan, secretary; Reymar Berja of Barangay Alijis, treasurer; Donna Michaela Perma of Barangay Singcang-Airport, auditor; Shaine Jezreel Solidum of Barangay Villamonte, public relation officer; Jericho Malagsic of Barangay Handumanan, and sergeant at arms.

Villaflor, a law student of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and magna cum laude of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in University of St. La Salle, along with the other officers were all unopposed.

Villaflor said since this generation is very empowered by the government, she will make sure that all the conflict in the barangays will be settled properly.

"Of course, I will uplift to empower the youth not just in sports, but also in education and political awareness. I will make myself as an inspiration to the young ones in terms of education because I did not come from a very influential family and political inclination," she said.

She added she is ready to face the challenges as the SK Federation president and a member of the city council.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he is hopeful that this batch of SK will be more assimilated and to see more activities with the barangay officials.

"I am hopeful that there will be more SK officials involve in barangay activities, especially in the implementation of the ‘no segregation, no collection' policy of the city. Hopefully, they will be more active and participative or more vocal SK officials," he said.

The mayor disclosed that this batch of SK officials could be more mature because of their age bracket, from 18 to 24 years old.
