THE SM City Bacolod security security force and mall operations team commemorated the Philippine Environment Month by helping plant over 2,500 seedlings at Brgy. Katilingban, Talisay City last June 16.

The tree-planting event was spearheaded by the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation (NWTF), whose advocacies cover sustainable communities, livelihood, support for women, and environmental protection.

In total, the NWTF was able to bring together 289 participants.

Glenn Sazon, the mall’s customer relations manager, lead the 35-strong SM team in this multi-sector initiative.

They joined other organizations brought together by the NWTF, including the Technological University of the Phillippines-Visayas , Bacolod City National High School, Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, Makati Development Corporation, Talisay Youth Organization, Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation Inc., Province of Negros Occidental administrator’s office, Provincial Environment Management Office, Talisay Bantay Bukid, and Citizen Crime Watch-Talisay Chapter.

Residents of the tree-planting sites in the Talisay villages of Katilingban and San Fernando also participated.

Of the tree-planting project, Sazon says, “The SM security force is happy to be part of this laudable NWTF activity for the environment.”

He also added that the team intends to revisit the site frequently to check up on the planted trees to ensure their growth and survival.

SM City Bacolod looks forward to more sustainability collaborations with the NWTF. (PR)
