STI West Negros University Executive Vice President Dr. Ryan Mark Molina and Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive officer Frank Carbon signed a memorandum of agreement on Wednesday, June 28.

The signing of the MOA signifies the partnership between STIWNU and MBCCI in providing a venue for the academe and the industry to share resources in conducting co-curricular activities such as training, lectures, consultations, fora, career orientation, advocacy campaigns, on-the-job training, and related endeavors that will bridge the gap between what academic institutions produce in terms of graduates and the industry needs for its manpower in the tertiary, graduate and post-graduate programs; updating faculty and students with first-hand information on business sector’s current trends and practices, and providing inputs as an industry partner in the offering of new and existing academic programs in the tertiary, graduate and post-graduate levels, designing the curriculum, and in its subsequent review and revisions.

Molina said the university reaches out to different sectors and government agencies because it is the belief of STIWNU that learning should be collaborative, and industry leaders and practitioners have been consulted for wisdom and guidance.

“The agreement we signed with the MBCCI is a step towards the realization of our dream for the College of Business Management and Accountancy to be a center of excellence. We just can't stand alone; we need the expertise of the MBCCI to guide the way we educate our students in business. This will help us ensure that the competence we teach is aligned with what the industry needs to realize our mission of producing quality graduates who will not only join the workforce soon but will become leaders of the organization they will belong to,” he said.

Carbon said MBCCI has been waiting for this opportunity to work hand in hand with the academe in order for industry leaders and practitioners to provide input and insights to educators to make instruction and training for students relevant and applicable to the needs of the industry. (PR)
