Trash collectors urged not to ask money, food from residents

BACOLOD City Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of the City Council committee on environment and ecology, appealed to the city’s current garbage hauler IPM-Construction and Development Corporation (IPM-CDC) to always remind their garbage collectors not to ask any demands from household owners in the city.

Rojas said she already talked with Daryl Abiol, project supervisor of IPM-CDC, about the recent report that their garbage collectors were asking money or food from household owners.

“It is not the responsibility of the household owners to give them money or food,” she said.

If the residents will voluntarily offer a food to them, Rojas said that it is okay, but if they do not, they should not also demand.

Last month, a resident from Barangay Estefania reported to Mayor Evelio Leonardia that some of the IPM-CDC’s garbage collectors were asking money.

Another person was also arrested by police operatives after he was caught soliciting money from residents of Barangay Tangub using the name of the City Government and IPM-CDC.

Abiol had earlier said that they are not authorizing their garbage collectors to make a solicitation or ask money from household owners.

Abiol said the suspect only used the name of IPM-CDC and he is not their employee.

He said they are constantly monitoring the performance of their garbage collectors and reminding them not to ask anything from the household owners. (MAP)
