THE Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas (TUPV) was awarded the Quality Management System ISO 9001:2015 by TUV Rheinland in a ceremony held Friday, June 22, at SMX Convention Center in Bacolod City.
The ISO 9001:2015 certificate was awarded by Maria Luna Villacrusis, TUV Rheinland Senior Manager for Marketing and Sales to TUP-V represented by President Ma. Leonor Validor and by Campus Director Eric Malo-oy.
The international organization for standardization certification or the ISO 9001:2015 refers to the Quality Management Systems (QMS) anchored on the seven quality management principles – customer focus, leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, evidence-based decision making and relationship management.
As TUP-V is gearing towards becoming the premier state university in the country with recognized excellence in engineering and technology equal at par with the leading universities in the ASEAN Region, the ISO 9001 ensures quality orientation by the core processes to optimize management system.
Malo-oy said that quality, equity, and efficiency are just among the many goals of higher education and must be fulfilled with other institutions and the stakeholders.
"Higher education should produce more quality graduates, provide lifelong learning for all, be more efficient, emphasize excellence and raise the bar for the average students to be globally competitive," he added.
The key changes that ISO 9001:2015 brought include the adoption of high-level structure, risk-based thinking, fewer prescribed requirements, less emphasis on documents, improve applicability on changes and increase leadership requirement, among others.
Present during the ceremony were members of the faculty, staff, and administration of TUP-V, academe, industry partners and its alumni association. (PR)
