A FEMALE visitor who tried to sneak in a cellular phone inside the Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Bago City was caught by a jail officer during the inspection Saturday.

Chief Inspector Castle Masip, NODJ warden, said Analyn Pepino hid the contraband on the sole of a slipper.

Jail Officer 1 Maria Karlyn Callao discovered the cellular phone when she noticed that the slipper was peculiarly big for its size.

Pepino was supposed to allegedly give it to a female person deprived of liberty (PDL), who was accused of drug trafficking.

With the incident, the jail management has banned the said visitor from visiting the jail.

The female PDL will also be restricted to receive visitors if found guilty of conspiring with Pepino.

Cellular phones, deadly weapons, cigarettes, and illegal drugs are among the contrabands that are prohibited by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) inside every jail facility nationwide.

Later that day, 32 cellular phones were voluntarily surrendered by the PDLs to the office of the jail warden.

“The confiscation of a cellular phone is a reminder to each and every unscrupulous visitor that we will be relentless and persistent in our drive to cleanse our jail from any contraband," Masip said.

Last week, the jail also seized six cellular phones from female PDLs.
