Woman charged for adultery freed on bail

THE 39-YEAR-OLD woman who was charged with adultery was released from the custodial facility of Police Station 8 after posting bail before the Regional Trial Court in Bacolod City on Thursday afternoon, June 15.

Captain Melvin Mercado, commander of Police Station 8, said yesterday the suspect, whose name is being withheld, was released after she posted bail of P36,000 while her alleged lover, whose name is being withheld, is now processing his bail.

The woman and her alleged lover were arrested in an entrapment operation after the woman’s husband, a policeman assigned at Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), sought the assistance of Police Station 8 when his wife was seen along Barangay Singcang-Airport with an unidentified man on Monday evening, June 12.

The woman said they are no longer on good terms with her husband and they have been separated since 2019.

She said her husband was not allowed to enter their house because they have a barangay protection order after he hit their eldest child, adding that they have two children aged 10 and 5 years old.

The woman noted that they were married in 2009 and she became a battered wife two months after their wedding due to the alleged vices of her husband such as cockfighting and having an affair with other women.

She said that they have a separation agreement, but her husband entrapped her with her business partner.

“He just wants to clear his name because of his affair with other women. I’m the victim here, not my husband,” she added.

The woman noted that in 2014, she filed a case against her husband for violation of Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 where he was ordered by the court to sustain the needs of their children, but he failed to do so.

The woman said her husband took her two children on Wednesday, June 14, and she will do her best to get their custody, adding that she will also file a case against her husband to dismiss him from the Philippine National Police service.

Meanwhile, the woman’s husband could not be reached for comment as of press time.*
