A WOMAN was hacked to death by her husband near their house at Barangay Tampalon in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Saturday, September 8.

Killed was Merlita Vergara, 35.

Superintendent Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said the victim was allegedly killed by her husband Alberto Vergara, 38, a fried chicken vendor.

Due to jealousy, Alberto attacked his wife with a scythe and hit her on her neck.

The victim succumbed to a lone hack wound.

Alberto then escaped but later surrendered to the authorities through the help of the village officials. The weapon was not recovered from him.

The suspect admitted killing his wife because he was suspecting her to have an affair with someone else, Guadalupe said.

Guadalupe added they received reports that the suspect would usually arrive home drunk and allegedly abused his wife.

The victim's family is willing to pursue parricide charges against the suspect, who is detained at Kabankalan City Police Station, Guadalupe said.
