Malacanang wishes 'good health' on Arroyo's birthday

MALACANANG wished on Tuesday former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo good health as she celebrates her 65th birthday on Thursday.

"Well, advance happy birthday and get well soon. I hope that her condition continues to improve as it has been in the past few months," deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a news briefing.

Arroyo will be celebrating her birthday at the Veterans' Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City where she has been under hospital arrest for facing election fraud case in relation to the 2007 polls.

Valte also hoped that Arroyo, now Pampanga congresswoman, and Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona will have a meaningful observance of the Holy Week.

She said, however, that it would be up to the two if they would also make any repentance this Holy Week like any other Filipino Catholics.

"Repentance or confession is a personal decision. We will leave it to them," she said.

Corona is facing an impeachment trial for culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption and betrayal of public trust.

The Senate impeachment court has suspended the trial as Congress is currently on a Lenten break. The trial will resume in May. (SDR/Sunnex)
