PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson as the chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) of the Negros Island Region (NIR).

Lacson received his appointment order from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-NIR OIC-Regional Director Lailyn Ortiz and OIC-Assistant Regional Director Teodora Sumagaysay on Thursday, April 10, at the Provincial Capitol building.

“It is with great pride and honor that we extend our heartfelt felicitations on your designation, which is a testament to your steadfast leadership, unwavering dedication to public service, and exemplary commitment to peace and order,” Ortiz said.

She said the governor’s appointment was signed and approved by the President, and affirmed the National Government’s trust in Lacson’s capability to lead the RPOC-NIR with excellence and integrity.

She added that they are confident that under Lacson’s stewardship, the Council will continue to advance policies and initiatives that ensure the safety, harmony, and development of the communities.

“May this new role further inspire your enduring pursuit of good governance and your mission to uplift the lives of the people of NIR. Congratulations and may your leadership continue to be a beacon of progress and peace for the entire region,” Ortiz said.

In 2024, Republic Act 1200, or the Act Establishing the Negros Island Region, was enacted into law. It divided the NIR into three provinces –

Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City; Negros Oriental; and Siquijor.

Lacson was also a former chairperson of the RPOC-Western Visayas. (MAP)
