BACOLOD City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the allegations posted on social media that the land purchased by the City is covered by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp) is fake news.

“They are barking up the wrong tree,” Benitez said.

He said the land purchased by the City is part of the land banking, and for housing program and various developmental projects of the city.

The mayor noted that he was informed that there were alleged complaints filed against him and other city officials regarding a land purchase deal of the City.

“I have no idea regarding an alleged criminal and admin complaints filed against me and other city officials,” Benitez said.

He said if it was out in the media before even serving them a copy of the alleged complaint, then it is purely election propaganda and a ploy to create noise for election purposes.

He added that previous mayors who purchased lands before were mostly charged also, and all had been dismissed by the Ombudsman.

“I assure all Bacolodnons that it was above-board and had complied with all the processes required under the law. It will pass any legal scrutiny for that matter,” the mayor said. (MAP)
